Finding My Purpose
For many, finding purpose is hard. For some, one’s purpose is found at a young age and others never find it. For me, what I thought my purpose in life would be, never was. Actually it was a complete 180. It wasn’t until I fully surrendered to God, that His plan for my life was revealed. It didn’t come without doubt, fear, or a lot of procrastination, but I found it at age 37 nonetheless, and thus this blog was born.
I’m going to keep this page short, because future blog posts will center around why I do this blog and at what point I discovered my God given purpose in life. But just let me say this. We all have purpose and if you haven’t found yours, please don’t give up. I get teary eyed just thinking about those that haven’t found their purpose in life, because I know how much of a struggle it can be, and I know how defeated one can feel when you feel lost in what your life is supposed to be about.
All too often, we don’t hear God directly because we aren’t listening, so He has to use others to get through your thick skull. Once those He assigns to your case, get through to you, He can start working on tugging your heart strings. That is how I found my purpose. I mean, there’s way more to the story, but that’s how it got started. It started because a pastor at my church took his calling and built Disciples Made, a teaching concept that helps you build community, while finding your God given purpose. So in short, I would have never signed up and committed to going through this 6 month study if God hadn’t placed me on the hearts of others who relentlessly persuaded me to join. It was 6 months of being in the Word daily, holding others accountable, while letting others hold me accountable. It was 6 months of developing connections that became friendships, developing my character, identifying and using my spiritual gifts, developing my love for God’s truth, and most importantly discovering why God put me on this earth. It was realizing that once you fully surrender your life to God, he’ll take the story he wrote for your life and make you realize that it’s not your story to keep, it’s your story to share. And, it took these verses to a whole new level for me; 1 Peter 1: 13-16. After in depth studying these words, here is what was laid on my heart…professing to know Christ isn’t enough you need to be holy…and great works alone won’t cut it either…you must be living out God’s Will for your life…and believe me you have one.
And that’s where I’ll leave this page. So stay tuned for more about that journey, over in the posts under ‘Just a Closer Walk with Thee’.
